How Much Water Do I Need To Drink?

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

Hydration for singers:

As singers, we are always being told to hydrate! Despite the fact that the water we drink does not wash directly over our vocal folds, we are still expected to get a decent amount of water. Why is that? The water we drink is absorbed by our stomach—in other words, it has to run through your body before it is distributed to our larynx (voice box). The entire process takes time, so make sure you’re hydrating all-throughout the day, especially the days you perform.

We still need to drink a lot of water. Singers should be drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water per day. If you are unsure about your water intake, it is recommended that you take a look at your urine. The color of your urine will indicate your level of hydration. If it’s pale or clear, you are drinking more than enough water, but if it is a dark shade of yellow, you need to start drinking more.

Not drinking enough water in a day leads to a dry, scratchy throat, and weakened voice. Take care of yourself and take care of your voice. How much water do you drink?
